…THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 300 AM EDT FOR
CENTRAL OCONEE COUNTY…

At 208 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated that the heavy rain producing
showers and thunderstorms were moving southeast of the Flash Flood
Warning area. Radar estimates that some 2 to 4 inches of rain fell
in the warning area over the past 3 hours, but any additional rain
in this region will be light the rest of the early morning hours.

Though no reports of significant flooding have been received, the
Flash Flood Warning will be maintained until 3 am in case any new
flooding develop along and downstream of swollen creeks and streams
in the warning area.

Some locations that may still experience flooding include…
Salem, Devils Fork State Park, Oconee State Park, Mountain Rest,
Long Creek, Bad Creek, Walhalla and Lake Jocassee. Flooding also
remains possible through 3 AM along tributaries to the Tugaloo
River, Brasstown Creek, Long Creek, and Tamassee Creek across
northwest Oconee County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on
our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message
should describe the event and the specific location where it
occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names and
other landmarks.
